People in the U.S. are driving more miles, according to the US Department of Transportation (DOT), while using less gasoline and owning fewer cars, according to the University of Michigan Transportation Research Institute (UMTRI).

A study released by the DOT showed that the number of miles driven has surged in recent years, to 3.02 trillion miles in 2014, reports Richard Read of HighGearMedia.com, writing for The Washington Post; and the study by UMTRI showed that US drivers are using less gasoline and owning fewer cars than they have in 30 years.
