A bipartisan group of 51 House members wrote a letter to U.S. Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx expressing “deep concern” over the 34-hour restart provision included in the new Hours-of-Service (HOS) rule, reports the New England Fuel Institute (NEFI) in its newsletter.

Rep. Michael Michaud (D-Me.) was among those who signed the letter, which questions the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) on the status of an HOS field study required by Congress in the last transportation bill, reports NEFI Online Energy News (NEON). The field study was to be completed March 31, 2013 and a final report delivered to Congress by the end of September. The letter says it is “counter to commonsense” to have let the rule go forward prior to the completion of the report. A response was requested by Sept. 12th.
