In a historic moment for unleaded aviation fuel, Andy Findlay soared to victory in the Unlimited Experimental Class at this year’s EAA AirVenture Cup Race, powered by VP Racing’s UL100E unleaded avgas. The win marks a milestone not only for Andy’s racing career, but also for the future of general aviation fuel.

Adding to the significance of the victory, VP Racing’s own Chief Operating Officer, Karen Madden, flew alongside Findlay as co-pilot, demonstrating VP’s commitment to innovation not just in development, but in the cockpit as well.

“This is a huge win on multiple levels,” said Andy Findlay. “It’s exciting after years of development through the partnership with VP and we have a product we can not only test, but we can put in the air. We flew from North Carolina to the EAA AirVenture Cup this year with UL100E and won the Unlimited Experimental Class. We even beat the Cirrus Jet by one mph.”

VP Racing’s UL100E is the only remaining unleaded aviation fuel in the FAA’s Piston Aviation Fuels Initiative (PAFI) testing and approval program, making it the most advanced unleaded solution in the industry today.

“We are nearing completion of our 8-year journey to get our unleaded aviation fuel certified by the FAA and the OEMs for fleetwide use,” said Mark Walls, Director of R&D at VP Racing. “It’s also nice to see the VP pedigree continuing with a win at the AirVenture Cup this year, and we look forward to finishing up and fueling the general aviation community by the end of next year.”

The win was also celebrated by race organizers, who recognized the broader impact on the aviation community.

“Andy Findlay’s Unlimited Class win using VP’s UL100E isn’t just a victory on the racecourse, it’s a major step forward for the future of aviation fuel,” said Joe Coraggio, Vice-Chairman of the AirVenture Cup Race. “The AirVenture Cup has always championed the spirit of innovation and how racing technology filters into mainstream aviation. Having VP Racing Aviation not only power the winning aircraft, but also support the race as a sponsor this year, is a perfect reflection of that mission coming to life.”

VP Racing’s involvement in both competition and fuel innovation continues to push the boundaries of performance while accelerating the transition to a cleaner, unleaded future for aviation.
