The Steel Tank Institute-Steel Plate Fabricators Association (STI-SPFA) is celebrating its 100th Anniversary. It was in 1916 that a group of tank manufacturers established STI as a trade association in Kewaunee, Illinois. SPFA was established in 1935 and merged with STI in 2004.

STI-SPFA has established a 100th Anniversary webpage on its site at www.steeltank.org. A video featuring association members highlights the association’s role in the steel fabrication industry.

“We’re so pleased that several members have provided photos and documents for the 100th Anniversary webpage,” said Wayne Geyer, Executive Vice President of STI-SPFA. “The photos are fascinating, showing history from wooden storage tanks, the pre-welding days of riveted steel, early welded pipe and pressure vessel fabrications, to today’s modern double-walled, corrosion-protected, fire-protected steel tanks.”

Members of the media are encouraged to contact STI-SPFA for more information about STI-SPFA’s 100 years of serving the steel fabrication industry, regulators, and the public.
