SHEETZ, INC. LOGOFormer Dallas Cowboys running back, Emmitt Smith and NFL Hall of Famer Dick Butkus are among the names that headline the 15th Annual Sheetz Family Charities “For the Kidz” Golf Classic being held at Kingsmill Resort in Williamsburg, VA Monday, June 3.  Also playing in the event for charity are Motley Crue rocker Vince Neil, Atlanta Braves David Justice, Charlotte Hornets Larry Johnson, Washington Redskins Mark Brunell, Pittsburgh Steelers Jack Ham, Mel Blount, Mike Wagner and LC Greenwood.

The golf outing is a major fundraising effort for the Sheetz Family Charities that benefits the company’s Christmas program for underprivileged children who are identified with the help of the Salvation Army. Proceeds from last year’s golf event were used to bring smiles to the faces of more than 6,900 children

Sheetz Family Charities is also supported throughout the year by Sheetz in-store donations, proceeds from Sheetz bottled water sales and other efforts. In 2012, Sheetz raised more than $1.1 million for the charity.

“With the support of our vendor partners who participate in the golf event, and through the generosity of our great customers year-round, Sheetz Family Charities provides funding for programs that enrich the lives of thousands of children every year in Virginia and across the six states where we have store locations,” says President and CEO Stan Sheetz.

Started in 1992, “For the Kidz” was the first charity established by the Altoona, PA based company. That year Sheetz worked with the Altoona area Salvation Army to brighten Christmas for 12 special children. Today, hundreds of Sheetz employees across six states work with their local Salvation Army chapters to identify children who may need some help to have any Christmas at all.

“This is one way our employees can truly make a difference in their own communities,” adds Stan Sheetz. “For us it’s about sharing the love with those in need.”
