Vermont Gas Systems is moving ahead with the second phase of its Addison-Rutland Natural Gas Project— even before they have received approval for Phase 1, reports the Vermont Fuel Dealers Association (VFDA).
Phase 2 picks up the pipe in Middlebury and heads to Cornwall where it would serve just 300 potential customers before heading west, going through Lake Champlain in order to provide fuel for the International Paper Plant in Ticonderoga, New York, reports the association’s Fuel Line Newsletter.
The third phase would bring the pipeline to Rutland by 2020, where the utility hopes to convert 13,000 customers, Fuel Line reports. The long term plan of the Gaz Metro subsidiary is to connect to the national pipeline grid near Albany, Fuel Line reports.
The Public Service Board is expected to rule on Phase 1 by the end of the year. VFDA intervened in that hearing, providing testimony contending that the environmental and economic benefits of natural gas are vastly overstated.
