NATSO, the national trade association representing truckstops and travel plazas, commended the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works for putting forth a pragmatic, long-term plan for funding highway infrastructure.
“We applaud Senator Barbara Boxer and the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee for working to keep critical funds flowing to the highway transportation system,” said NATSO President and CEO Lisa Mullings. “There’s no question that lawmakers will face tough choices as they begin to work on legislation to pay for our nation’s highway infrastructure. We thank the committee for setting us on a solid path forward.”
The Senate EPW’s transportation proposal, S. 2322, would reauthorize current transportation law for six years at current funding levels plus inflation.
Underscoring the critical role that freight transportation plays in the U.S. economy, S. 2322 would establish a formula-based freight program that would provide funds to all states to improve goods movements in key corridors. The bill also would expand flexibility for both rural and urban areas to designate key freight corridors that match regional goods movement on roads beyond the Primary Freight Highway Network.
“We appreciate the EPW Committee’s commitment to solving the nation’s critical transportation infrastructure needs,” Mullings said.
