UL®, a global independent agency that tests, inspects, and validates products for safety, recently certified the Husky Corporation VIII Heavy Duty Diesel Automatic Nozzle, 5812 Safe-T-Brake®, and 4860 swivel for use with biodiesel fuel blends.

The certification provides customers with peace of mind that Husky Corporation’s standard diesel fuel dispensing product line has always been safe to work in the biodiesel environment.

The Husky VIII nozzle and accessories are popular products among heavy duty diesel customers and have been used in biodiesel applications for some time. A portion of the test funding for seeking UL biodiesel certification was provided by the National Renewable Energy Lab and the National Biodiesel Board as a way to prove there are no adverse environmental issues associated with using biodiesel.

The Husky VIII nozzle features an aluminum body, fluorocarbon seals, dual-poppet design, Delrin-tipped stem, automatic shut-off, and unique Flo-Stop® device. The Husky VIII is the ideal nozzle for truck stops, high volume self-service locations, full-service facilities, and unattended stations.

Biodiesel is made from feedstock like recycled cooking oil, soybean oil, and animal fats. It is most often blended with petroleum at five to 20 percent biodiesel and can be used in most existing diesel engines without modification. The National Biodiesel Board reported the U.S. produced more than 1.8 billion gallons of biodiesel in 2013, which represents a growing portion of the annual on-road diesel market of about 35 billion to 40 billion gallons.
