Geometris LP, provider of the industry-leading family of Fleet Tracking and Telematics hardware devices, announced certification with the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) for the hardware interface to VisTracks, Inc. white labeled DOT hours of service (HOS) software. This certification shows compliance of the hardware and software combination to the FMCSA December 2015 mandate for electronic logging device (ELD) application software and hardware support. With the DOT having issued mandates that require fleets to maintain electronic logs, it’s imperative that truck drivers are compliant with hours of service, rests, vehicle inspections and a myriad of other regulations.

Geometris successfully passed all 318 FMCSA tests at an independent test lab when used with the VisTracks android software application. The Geometris whereQube Eng™ 8X Series includes support for engine bus data on SAE J1939 and SAE J1708 standards of critical parameters such as vehicle identification number (VIN), engine on/off, speed, engine hours and revolutions per minute (RPMs) that are required to be transmitted every three to five seconds to the android app for FMCSA compliance. Additionally, the Geometris whereQube Eng™ 8X Series uses short range wireless personal area network (PAN) connectivity to make pairing simple and to interface with both android and iOS developer applications.

The Geometris whereQube Eng™ 80 Series devices and firmware should be used for light-duty trucks in FMCSA certified HOS application. On-board diagnostics provided to the SAE J1962 standards must request parameter identification (PID) codes and receive responses from the vehicle and are often required to have unique firmware for each of the major manufacturers of light-duty trucks. There is currently no requirement to report actual odometer in the OBDII specifications nor engine hours that are required by the FMCSA.

“We are pleased to have gained certification with the FMCSA and appear on their website of approved ELD vendors,” says Dr. Stephen Eick, VisTracks’s Chief Executive Officer. “Key to our effort was the ease of integration with the Geometris whereQube Eng™ 8X Series with a BTLE interface. It is so much easier for a driver to use compared to other vendors.” Dr. Eick continued, “We also had tremendous engineering support from the Geometris team in Houston and that sped up our FMCSA certification project tremendously.”

“We are thrilled that VisTracks has gained certification with the FMCSA using our telematics hardware,” says Manish Desai, CEO of Geometris. “We were invited into the design process by one of VisTracks key white label resellers and worked hard to meet their special requirements.”
