The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) issued its annual report on light-duty automotive technology, fuel economy and emissions trends. The report shows that model year 2012 vehicles achieved fuel economy of 23.6 miles per gallon (mpg). This represents a 1.2 mpg increase over the previous year.

Average CO2 emissions were 376 grams per mile, down 22 g/mile from 2011 model year (MY) vehicles. Preliminary MY 2013 data projects a further 0.4 mpg increase in fuel economy and 6 g/mile decrease in CO2 emissions.
