Yara North America Inc., a leading worldwide diesel exhaust fluid producer, today announced the opening of two new DEF terminals as part of its continued investment and expansion in North America. The addition of the Stockton, California storage facility, alongside its existing facility at Port Hueneme, means that Yara has the largest DEF storage capacity on the West Coast. Its new large-scale DEF storage facility in Tampa, Florida is the first in the state.

Now fully operational, the facilities will provide distributors and fleets on both coasts increased access to Air1® DEF, an operating fluid used by diesel-powered vehicles equipped with selective catalytic reduction (SCR) technology to meet EPA 2010 emissions regulations. DEF consumption in North America by Class 4 – 8 vehicles is expected to exceed 400 million gallons by 2015, according to Integer Research the leading DEF market analyst.

“Bringing both Stockton and Tampa on line at the same time signals a step change in our ability to provide safe and reliable supplies of quality DEF that trucks need to drive the economy,” said Ed Wells, Yara North America’s Vice President of Yara Environmental Solutions. “These two new storage facilities demonstrate our commitment to expand our supply chain network.”

This major expansion in new deep-water terminals builds on Yara’s rapid investment over the past three years in storage terminals such as Houston, Texas, and Chesapeake, Virginia, and in its DEF production and distribution facility in Belle Plaine, Canada.

It also aligns with the company’s business strategy to invest in products and solutions that address major global issues related to environmental challenges such as lowering emissions and improving air quality. Yara also supplies the North American market with its production capabilities at its site in Sluiskil, Netherlands, the world’s largest DEF production facility.
