WEX, a leading financial technology service provider, and ChargePoint, the world’s largest electric vehicle (EV) charging network, have signed a deal to expand electric vehicle charging to fleets throughout the U.S.

Under the agreement, WEX and ChargePoint have developed and deployed an EV payment system that allows up to 11 million WEX Fleet card holders to pay for charges at more than 66,000 places to charge on the ChargePoint network.

The companies will announce their merchant agreement at the Government Fleet Expo Conference, one of the largest gatherings of government fleet managers in the U.S., June 17-20 in New Orleans. David Breault, senior manager of Fleet Solutions for ChargePoint, will be on hand at the WEX booth (Booth #904) from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Tuesday, June 18, to answer questions and offer assistance in how to activate WEX EV FleetCharge.

Developed in partnership with a federal agency, WEX EV FleetCharge expands the array of fuels available to public and private organizations, makes it easier than ever for them to acquire and pay for EV charges, and helps them meet emissions mandates to reduce their environmental footprints.

ChargePoint provides EV charging solutions and WEX provides fuel cards to the U.S. General Services Administration. WEX EV FleetCharge was tested and developed within GSA Fleet, the nation’s largest public fleet, with more than 200,000 vehicles under management.

With more than 11 million cards in the market and acceptance at more than 95 percent of fueling locations across the U.S., WEX helped create the first fuel card for fleets in 1983 and today is a leading provider of data-driven corporate payment solutions in the Fleet, Travel and Health sectors.

ChargePoint is the world’s leading EV charging network, with more than 66,000 places to charge globally. With a global headquarters in Silicon Valley, ChargePoint’s comprehensive portfolio offers customers charging solutions for nearly every category of EV charging: at home, work, around town and for fleet applications.

ChargePoint’s broad range of charging solutions including smart-networked chargers, software, energy management, support, and cloud services helps fleet managers more seamlessly and effectively manage their electric vehicle fleets. It also provides tools for a wide range of fleet scenarios, including depot, mixed-use and on-route.

“Partnering with ChargePoint and adding their 66,000 sites to our network is a natural next step for us,” WEX Senior Vice President of Fleet Product Management Peggy Watson said. “We’re always expanding our product functionality to meet the expanding and diverse needs of a broad range of fleet operators. That includes those that have made commitments or are under mandates to transition from traditional fuels to electric.”

“Our partnership with ChargePoint allows EV fleets to operate seamlessly, conveniently and cost-effectively,” Watson said, “just like traditional WEX fuelers do.”

“ChargePoint is committed to building out the fueling network that will enable the transportation of all people and goods under electric power, with solutions that make it easier for drivers and organizations to charge whenever and wherever they need,” ChargePoint Vice President of Global Fleet Solutions Mark Kerstens said.

“ChargePoint’s partnership with WEX is a significant enhancement to our already comprehensive portfolio of charging solutions for fleets,” Kerstens said. “Leveraging WEX’s decades of experience, this partnership makes expense management even easier and more cost-effective, while helping make the transition to electric seamless and compelling for fleet managers and drivers.”
