The Convenience Distribution Association (CDA) announced Sept. 13 that Susie Douglas Munson, chief operating officer of Douglas Companies, Conway, AR, will be the association’s new chair for 2017, the first woman to hold the position in the association’s history.

Munson, who received her green jacket symbolizing the position of CDA chair during the Convenience Distribution Business Exchange (CDBX) opening session, follows in the footsteps of her father, the late Bob W. Douglas, who led the association, then known as the American Wholesale Marketers Association, in 2001.

“For many years, Susie has volunteered her time, talents and energy to CDA committees and initiatives,” said 2016 Chair Chad Owen, vice president of business affairs at Chambers & Owen, Janesville, WI. “I have no doubt that as chair, Susie will not only support, but strengthen the many valuable services provided by CDA to our membership.” Munson will succeed Owen, taking over as chair in January.

CDA President & CEO Kimberly Bolin said she looks forward to working with Munson in her new role as CDA chair. “Susie Munson is a special individual, an extremely smart and capable industry executive who brings a rare combination of practical knowledge and forward-thinking vision. Under her leadership, CDA will continue on its path of advancement and success,” she said.

Douglas Companies, founded in 1973 by Susie’s father, is a strong and growing regional supplier servicing a six-state area of Arkansas, Missouri, Kansas, Texas, Oklahoma and Louisiana. Susie and her brother, Steve Douglas, president and CEO of Douglas Companies, jointly own and operate the family distribution business.

Susie has served in the convenience industry for over 26 years, dating back to May of 1990. She joined the company after completing her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from the University of Arkansas.

She also enjoys developing key accounts and working with the Douglas Sales Team. Susie has been active in the political arena, advocating for industry and small business issues at both the state and federal level.

Susie has served as past president of the Arkansas Wholesale Marketer’s Association; she was a member of the WAM Advisory Board and has been a member of the CDA Board of Directors for over seven years, where she served as chairman of the Government Affairs Committee before joining the Executive Committee.

Active in her community of Little Rock, Susie has served on the Cathedral School Board of Trustees and as president of the Episcopal Collegiate School’s Parents Auxiliary. Currently, she is a member of the Junior League of Little Rock’s Sustainer Board and serves as president of the Chi Omega Alumnae of Greater Little Rock. She has been an active member of Immanuel Baptist Church for over 20 years, where she has served in the children’s ministry and adult Sunday School leadership.

Susie has been married to Eric Munson for 25 years. They are the proud parents of Mary Grace, 21; Douglas, 19; both students at the University of Arkansas and Stephen, 13; a busy seventh grade student. Susie’s spare time is spent with her family and friends enjoying travel, lake time and supporting the Arkansas Razorbacks.
