The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) 2012 Global Harmonization Standard (GHS) includes changes to its Hazard Communication Standard, notes law firm Fisher & Phillips, and that means employers utilizing hazardous chemicals at their worksite will be required to train employees on the new “Safety Data Sheets” (SDS) by December 1, 2013.
To help employers prepare for those changes, Fisher & Phillips held a free webinar that it recorded for viewing online. The session addressed the following topics:
- The requirement of the new GHS and HazCom 2012 at a high level, with specific focus on the GHS changes and employer training obligations
- How to understand and review the new Safety Data Sheets
- OSHA’s training expectations for meeting the December 1, 2013 deadline
- Strategies for meeting all HazCom 2012 deadlines while maintaining compliance and avoiding the risk of potential OSHA citations and penalties
