NEMA Senior Vice President of Public Affairs Spencer Pederson issued the following statement in response to the House Subcommittee on Energy’s passage of the Electric Supply Chain Act (H.R. 3638):
“As energy demand and consumption from data centers, e-mobility, and electrification skyrocket, our grid is facing unprecedented pressure. To meet this challenge head-on, we must prioritize grid reliability by ensuring all relevant voices involved in supplying energy are at the table, including supply chain vendors and the manufacturers of critical grid components.
“The Electric Supply Chain Act (H.R. 3638) is critical legislation that would allow electric grid component manufacturers and supply chain vendors to provide the energy sector with greater clarity around their current and future capacity, opportunities for growth, and challenges related to maintaining a secure and resilient supply chain.
“More insight into the grid’s component supply chains also will strengthen national security. The participation of electrical manufacturers in the development of the Department of Energy’s (DOE) supply chain assessment will help identify where potential issues related to ‘foreign entities of concern’ and other emerging issues might have national security concerns.
“NEMA is grateful to Rep. Latta (OH-5) for introducing this important legislation and we urge the House Energy and Commerce Committee to take swift action. We look forward to continuing our work with lawmakers on both sides of the aisle to strengthen our nation’s manufacturing base and supply chains and bolster critical electrical infrastructure.”
