Bloomberg_537Electric-car technology has come a long way during the past decade, with advances in battery capacity and range, but the cars emit almost no sound at low speeds, potentially posing a threat to cyclists and pedestrians, reports Bloomberg Businessweek.

To address the hazard, designers have invented sound effects for the vehicles, such as a “sonorous purring” for Daimler’s e-Smart city car, and other sounds for other electric car models,  reports Dorothee Tschampa of Bloomberg Businessweek.
