The Energy Information Administration (EIA) released its weekly data on diesel and gasoline retail prices for the week ended July 30, 2017. At the national level, prices for both fuels rose. Retail diesel prices rose by 2.4 cents per gallon, while gasoline prices increased by 4.0 cents per gallon. Retail prices rose in all PADDs and in all major state/metropolitan area submarkets.

 

For the current week ended July 30, diesel prices rose by 2.4 cents to arrive at an average price of $2.531/gallon.

 

PADD 1 retail diesel prices increased by 2.0 cents to $2.566/gallon. New England prices increased by 1.6 cents to average $2.59/gallon. Central Atlantic diesel prices rose by 2.1 cents, to an average of $2.706/gallon. Lower Atlantic prices increased by 2.1 cents to average $2.462/gallon. PADD 1 prices were 21.2 cents/gallon above their prices for the same week last year.

 

In the Midwest PADD 2 market, retail diesel prices rose by 3.4 cents to average $2.486/gallon. Prices were 18.2 cents/gallon above their level for the same week last year.

 

In the Gulf Coast PADD 3 market, retail diesel prices increased by 1.7 cents to $2.359/gallon. This price was 13.5 cents higher than in the previous year.

 

In the Rocky Mountains PADD 4 market, retail diesel prices rose by 1.7 cents to $2.615/gallon. This price was 19.6 cents higher than in the prior year.

 

In the West Coast PADD 5 market, retail diesel prices rose by 2.8 cents to $2.816/gallon. This price was 18.6 cents above its level from last year. Prices excluding California rose by 2.6 cents to $2.704/gallon, which was 21.2 cents above the retail price for the same week last year. California diesel prices increased by 3.0 cents to an average price of $2.907/gallon, 16.6 cents higher than last year’s price.

 

 

 

 

U.S. retail gasoline prices rose by 4.0 cents for the week ended July 30, to an average price of $2.352/gallon. During the most recent week ended July 30, prices were 19.3 cents higher than for the same week in 2016.

 

In the East Coast PADD 1 market, prices for gasoline rose by 4.2 cents to $2.306/gallon. This price was 20.6 cents higher than last year’s price. Prices increased by 4.1 cents in New England to $2.357/gallon. Central Atlantic market prices rose by 2.6 cents to $2.417/gallon. Prices in the Lower Atlantic market rose by the largest increment, rising by 5.3 cents to an average price of $2.207/gallon. This was 18.2 cents higher than last year’s average price for the same week.

 

The largest price increase occurred in the Midwest PADD 2 market, which saw retail gasoline prices jump by 6.3 cents to average $2.276/gallon. Gasoline pump prices were 20.1 cents higher than they were one year ago.

 

In the Gulf Coast PADD 3 market, gasoline prices increased by 1.5 cents to average $2.083/gallon. Prices for the week were 13.9 cents higher than for the same week in 2016.

 

In the Rocky Mountains PADD 4 market, gasoline pump prices edged up only slightly, by 0.2 cents, to average $2.343/gallon. This price was 9.1 cents higher than at the same time in 2016.

 

In the West Coast PADD 5 market, retail gasoline prices increased by 2.6 cents to average $2.833/gallon. This was 21.9 cents higher than at the same time a year ago. Excluding California, West Coast prices rose slightly by 0.3 cents to an average of $2.579/gallon. This was 15.8 cents higher than at the same time in 2016. In California, prices rose by 4.0 cents to an average pump price of $2.981/gallon. California prices were 25.6 cents higher than last year’s price for the same week.
