“California voters’ overwhelming approval of Proposition 36 marks a critical step forward in protecting our state’s small businesses from the relentless impact of retail theft and smash-and-grab crimes. Most of California’s convenience stores are small, immigrant-owned businesses and they have been hit especially hard by the epidemic of retail theft. It is our hope that this commonsense adjustment will not only make communities safer but also allow our members throughout the state to keep their doors open and continue serving their customers.”
