The American Petroleum Institute released the following statement on a Government Accountability Office (GAO) report assessing the effectiveness of the Transportation Security Administration’s (TSA) cybersecurity guidelines for natural gas and oil pipeline infrastructure:
“Safe and responsible operations are priority number one for the natural gas and oil industry, and that includes ensuring that America’s energy infrastructure remains strong and secure in the constantly changing cyber-threat landscape. The TSA is an important partner that we work closely with – often going above and beyond TSA guidelines – to adhere to strong and proactive industry standards. In addition, we also support recent collaborative government initiatives like the Pipeline Cybersecurity Initiative, a partnership between TSA, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Cybersecurity Information Security Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE),” said Robin Rorick, API Vice President, Midstream and Industry Operations.
“Our industry believes in strong investments in the TSA keeps our energy system strong and secure, and will continue to support improvements to how they manage their cybersecurity guidelines. We look forward to our continued partnership as the agency considers these recommendations.”
