The compatibility of underground storage tank (UST) systems with alternative fuels was a hot topic at the 24th National Tanks Conference and Expo last week in Denver, Colo., reports the Petroleum Marketers Association of America (PMAA) in its Weekly Review. The topic is a growing concern for state regulators, according to the Weekly Review.

Two presentations at the conference discussed results of new compatibility studies – one by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and another by the National Oak Ridge Laboratory. Read more about the studies here.

The U.S. Department of Energy used the conference, which is sponsored in part by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), to roll out a new alternative fuel handling and storage handbook.
